Course is part of Advanced studies. Prior to course student must have completed 134 credits of nursing studies (including pharmacotherapy, anatomy and physiology, studies in Medical-Surgical nursing).
Mandatory participation in Orientation lecture and small group sessions. All tasks must be completed within the given timeframes. Written assignments must be done according to TAMK/Tuni's written work instructions and template. References must fulfill evidence-based nursing requirements.

The course is 4 ECTS. 1 ECTS is 27 hours of student work. The total work is 108 hours of student's work, including online studies, blended learning, small group work and independent studies.
The student does not reach the criteria set for passed evaluation, and criteria for satisfactory is not met.
Exam answers or assignments creating potential permanent damage to a patient and/or endangering patient safety lead to failed exam.
The student
- is able to comprehend the meaning of falling ill with chronic disease
- has basic theoretical, evidence-based and ethical knowledge needed in the nursing care of chronically ill patients
-knows how to implement (rehabilitative) nursing care with patients with chronic diseases
- can recognise most common long-term chronic diseases in medical-surgical patients and recognises most common disturbances in health condition/care and how they affect patient's health
- knows the most pertinent nursing methods with patients with chronic diseases: know the medication process, parenteral hydration and nutrition, and is able to take care of clinical calculations
- is able to evaluate patient’s condition and plan the care according to the needs
- is aware of the meaning of multidisciplinary cooperation in the care
- recognises the importance of patient’s and their families’ guidance during the care process
- does not have the ability to justify the decisions made, needs guidance and assistance, but will take responsibility of one’s learning
