Special Admission Requirements

The master's degree in civil engineering is intended for persons who have completed a university degree in civil engineering, a bachelor degree in site management, a professional higher education degree in civil engineering, a master's degree in civil engineering, or an equivalent foreign undergraduate degree. two years' professional experience in the relevant field after the above degree. Those who have completed an engineering degree have a scope of 60 cu and a bachelor degree on site management of 90 cu.

Profile of the Programme

The degree is a master-level professional higher education degree.
The degree complies with the criteria set by the Finnish national degree system as well as with the European framework for degrees and other competence.

Key Learning Outcomes

The aim of the training is to deepen the knowledge and skills related to construction project activities in particular. The degree prepares the student to work in demanding expert positions in the construction and real estate industry. These include construction project management, research and innovation activities and management of various development projects. The construction industry is undergoing major changes due to, among other things, energy efficiency, digitalisation and low carbon. New types of projects and production control processes challenge the traditional approach.

The content of the degree program is based on the student's personal development task (thesis 30 cr) and in-depth professional studies that increase personal competence (30 cr). Their goal is to deepen the know-how related to the design of a construction project and to update information on the most current design themes in the construction industry. The degree includes alternative studies for a total of 10 cr. The implementation of these alternative studies is determined by the majority choice of the selected group of students.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the training are mainly in management and expert positions related to construction projects. Among other things, they can act as project managers in construction or development projects.

Access to Further Studies

The master’s degree from a university of applied sciences produces the eligibility for postgraduate studies as a master’s degree from a university.
