Studies of syllabus is planned so 60 credits are studied in academic year and length of studies is 3,5/4/4,5 years. Planned syllabus may change during studies.
The significance of building services engineering in construction projects has increased greatly. The expertise in building services is required in both new and renovation projects. Building usage and maintenance tasks are also most often connected to building services.
The degree programme has two specialisation options: electrical services and HVAC services.
Both people and machines are better off working and living in a suitable environment. Building services engineering is an increasingly significant part of a functional and energy efficient environment. Building services combine the more traditional technologies of building, electric installations and HVAC with building automation and data transmission, computer applications, environmental consciousness, energy efficiency and understanding the users’ needs.
Building services engineering combines the technical services, systems and equipment of built environment. It produces controlled conditions for actions taking place in facilities and spaces. Building services engineering consists of e.g. air, water, heat, energy, light and data transmission as well as safety and mobility services.
Building services engineering is often a part of a construction project which requires seamless collaboration between the various parties involved. In many tasks, the prerequisite for coping is combining economical thinking with technical expertise and management skills. The basis for finding and implementing functional solutions is to understand the users’ actions and needs.
SPECIALISATION STUDIES
ELECTRICAL SERVICES
The specialisation studies in electrical services prepare the students for the electrotechnical systems of buildings, including electrical installations, lighting, electrical heating, communication and data transmission systems, building automation and alarm systems. A special emphasis is placed on the modern control and maintenance systems. The specialisation studies give the students the required skills to work in design tasks, in project manager tasks for contract work as well as in usage and maintenance tasks, technical trade and other expert tasks. The specialisation studies meet the training requirements set for getting the certificate of electric qualifications.
Typical job titles are: electrical designer, automation designer, project manager, technical merchant, electrical work manager.
HVAC SERVICES
The practical and diverse specialisation studies of HVAC services offer the students good basic skills needed to know, develop, design, build and control the numerous HVAC systems and their equipment and components. The education fulfils the basic requirements for design and manager qualifications. The skills taught in the specialisation studies can be used in e.g. manager tasks for HVAC contracting, machine building and sales, design companies, monitoring and official supervision tasks as well as in factory or real estate manager tasks.
PLACEMENT IN WORKING LIFE
In this field, the students may focus on a single area or develop themselves into experts who extensively combine different areas. In building services engineering, the jobs may be in small or large companies or in private entrepreneurship.
