The curriculum has been planned so that the student completes 60 ECTS credits per academic year and 30 ECTS credits per semester

Studies of syllabus is planned so 60 credits are studied in academic year and length of studies is 3,5/4/4,5 years. Planned syllabus may change during studies.

A group of students starting in August will follow this curriculum, which has the symbol 19I231. Curriculum specializations are automation technology and intelligent machines.

Expertise produced by the degree program
Automation technology is a key success factor in industry. It controls various processes, automates the manufacturing of products, and makes machines and equipment more efficient, accurate and safe. Automation today combines control technology, sensor and measurement technology and information technology. Training in Automation Technology provides the student with expertise in various areas of automation from field and software design to managing large projects, systems and processes.

Many electrical and automation tasks are related to international projects. Good language skills, communication skills, project know-how and flexibility are required of those working in the field.

We train students for occupations in electrical power engineering and electrical automation. The aim is to develop the skills needed to work in technically demanding jobs and further studies that require a good theoretical base and information search skills.

Graduates can look for work in planning, development, operating, maintenance, marketing and management in engineering companies, technical commerce, in energy and ICT institutions as well as starting their own business.

We value developing a good basic knowledge of science, understanding the theoretical base of electrical engineering and the ability to use mathematical models to describe practical systems.

Many of the tasks in work life require the ability to produce and interpret diagrams, descriptions and other documents. ICT is also widely used.

Along conventional lectures versatile lab and modelling environments are used. These enable putting the theory learnt into practice. This helps problem solving and enhances understanding of the theory.

During the first and second year of study a broad base for engineering studies is created. These studies enable the students for the three possible study paths which they choose in their second year. The paths have different emphases as follows:

leads the students to an understanding of how electricity is used and distributed through high and low voltages. They will become familiar with planning electrical systems for industry and buildings as well as the technologies that support these e.g. automation, control and monitoring systems. The graduates know the responsibilities when carrying out electrical works and are able to put their understanding into practice. The degree gives the training required for competence 1 in the field. The career opportunities are mainly in planning, maintenance and management of power plants and engineering services. The tasks might include marketing and selling either nationally or internationally,

Automation technology requires a broad understanding of the field. In addition to the basic studies in electrical engineering, the students need to understand control systems, measurements and automation. Also the basics of electronics and ICT are thought as well as networks and automation buses.. The curriculum also included programmable control systems and automation systems as well as design instrumentation automation. Studies are practical including laboratory courses, tasks and projects.
The students have the opportunity to complete the qualification needed for supervising electrical installations.
Career opportunities in this study path are usually in companies specializing in automation. Graduates can look for positions in planning, maintenance, management and sales. They can also start their own company and operate in Finland or internationally.

The students to this study path are chosen from various technical study programmes, mostly those from automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, ICT and electrical engineering. They will work together to understand automation, regulating elements, electrical power transmission, information communication, control systems as well as construction of machines and product development.
The outcome of the path are constructed machines that increasingly utilise electrical and ICT systems. The machines are often self-operated automatic production systems.

1. After the first year of study the students are able to work as trainees carrying out simple electrical tasks. The year has improved their study skills and they master the basics of science and electrical engineering.

2. After the second year the students have further skills that help them to work as trainees in electrical engineering companies. They master the fundamentals necessary in their chosen study path.

3. After the third year the students are can during their internship carry out the tasks of an engineer. They know the basics of their field.

4. The fourth year of study prepares the student to take full responsibility of their work as an engineer. After this year they know how to further develop as an engineer.
