The curriculum has been planned so that the student completes 60 ECTS credits per academic year and 30 ECTS credits per semester

Studies of syllabus is planned so 60 credits are studied in academic year and length of studies is 3,5/4/4,5 years. Planned syllabus may change during studies.

Degree Programme in Tourism

Qualification: Bachelor of Hospitality Management

Extent and duration: The extent of the education is 210 credits (cr) and it lasts for 3.5 years

In the Degree Programme in Tourism students will gain a broad special education in diverse fields of tourism with a special focus on wellbeing tourism and business.

The aim is to provide students with qualifications, theoretical and practical knowledge and diversified skills for working in demanding working life situations and tasks in the tourism business from customer service all the way to managerial level in tourism companies and organizations both in Finland and abroad. The graduated students can set up their own businesses, too.

The degree is comparable with equivalent degrees in other EU countries.

The graduated students will have the professional expertise required in the planning, organization, implementation and development of tourism and tourism businesses.

Graduates from the Tourism Progamme can work for example as sales or marketing manager, reception or resort manager, travelling assistant and manager, project manager, specialist or as an entrepreneur.

The degree programme consists of basic and professional studies, including practical training to enhance professional skills, bachelor’s thesis and elective studies.

The core study topics are tourism, experience economy, business and service management, marketing, culture and communication, project management, information technology, hospitality and event management, cross-cultural management and project studies.

Customer service, entrepreneurial, intercultural and interpersonal communication, language, leadership, networking, planning and organizational, team work, IT and technological skills are acquired throughout the studies and competences in business, marketing, management, tourism service culture and management, entrepreneurship, internationalization and in understanding existent and new technologies (such as internet, mobile and social media) and their impact for future markets are developed through a wide range of activities, assignments and projects in cooperation with working life and with a variety of networks, through bachelor’s thesis and practical training in Finland or abroad.

In the studies methods and tools of innovation and product development are tackled in order to provide students with the capacity to initiate innovations and develop new tourism products and services, based on sustainability and business, market, environment and destination analyses.

The language of instruction is English.

The learning and teaching methods are lectures, seminars, workshops, company visits, project work and assignments from companies, organizations and networks.

The exchange studies or practical training abroad is compulsory for Finnish students.
