Special Admission Requirements

Master’s degree is intended for people who have completed Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Science (Technology) or Bachelor of Science (Technology) degree, vocational college diploma in engineering or an equivalent foreign degree, and who have at least two years of work experience in a relevant field after graduation.

It is possible for students to have their prior competence recognised.

Key Learning Outcomes

Master's Degree Programme in Automation in Smart Industry
is a new multidisciplinary master’s degree programme in the field of technology. It was developed to respond to technology industry’s competence needs and changing working life requirements.

The studies develop technology, product development, automation, team and project management skills and deepen competence in innovation of intelligent industry products and services, technical design, development of automation solutions and sustainable production. The studies expand students’ competence in automation and mechanical engineering as well as information technology.

• machine learning and data analytics competence

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Companies and organizations need engineers with Master’s degree to the demanding specialist, designing, developing and leadership tasks. Job titles can include a project manager, a product development engineer, or an automation engineer.

The master’s degree from a university of applied sciences produces the eligibility for postgraduate studies as a master’s degree from a university.

Completion of studies and achievement of competence objectives in the extent set by the curriculum.

Mode of Study

The scope of the degree is 60 credit points and it consist of a development task (30 cr), advanced professional studies (20 cr) and the studies of own choice (10 cr). The studies of own choice can be selected from the automation in smart industry basket (5 cr) and from the basket of alternative advanced studies (5cr).

In advanced professional studies the students deepen their knowledge and skills on technologies in smart industry. The studies of own choice are aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge related to the development task or special professional needs.

The study consists of independent study, distance and contact teaching and laboratory exercises. The studies utilize the latest digital learning environments and the modern FieldLab - Industry 4.0 testing and development laboratory at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.

Development of the Programme

The Ministry of Education and Culture’ definitions of policy and TAMK’s strategy have been considered in the curriculum.

The curriculum is developed in cooperation with TAMK’s other master’s degree programmes. Working life cooperation is implemented through thesises and projects as well as network cooperation and advisory councils. Student feedback is collected annually in connection with courses. Alumni feedback is collected regularly through online surveys.
